December 2021

Comedy doesn’t have a Human Resources department, so leave it to Piffany to dole out honors and/or discipline accordingly. Piffany’s Employee of the Month for December 2021 is Nicole Byer. Congrats Nicole!
The last month of 2021 proved no contest for this year’s EOTM considerations…
Byer, shown above in September at the Emmy Awards, where she was nominated for the second consecutive year as Outstanding Host for a Reality or Competition Program, really did nail it!
The host of Nailed It! welcomed December 2021 with the release of her first solo stand-up special, also on Netflix: BBW (Big Beautiful Weirdo).
Here’s some of what I wrote in my review last month:
Some of her sexual revelations are graphically memorable, but they pale in comparison to her multiple stories about White women. From the hospital nurse who “attended” to Byer’s needs after she dislocated her ankle, to the loud and proud nature of them on their birthday — she manages references to not only Marvel and DC, but also “the Pokemon world” — or the presumptuous women in her twerking class, to even J.K. Rowling. Plenty of comedians, most notoriously Dave Chappelle, have come forward with takes on Rowling’s “TERF” beliefs. But Byer manages to dig deeper with an outlandish and impossibly, yet outrageously possible take on Rowling’s Harry Potter books that could convince you, too, to half-jokingly call the author “JKKK Rowling.”
That came out Dec. 7.

On Dec. 10, The CW announced that Byer would co-host the Critics Choice Awards alongside Taye Diggs.

Then on Dec. 14, NBC premiered the new sitcom, Grand Crew, featuring Byer first-billed in the main crew.
If you watch NBC at all, you cannot escape ads right now for Grand Crew. If you watch the Turner networks (TBS/TNT) for basketball or anything else, then you cannot escape ads for the second season of Wipeout!, the reality game show Byer co-hosts with wrestling superstar John Cena — that returns Jan. 11.
On top of all of that, she’s still managing to drop new episodes over the holidays for threw of her four podcasts. Yes, Nicole Byer fronts four separate podcasts!
Why Won’t You Date Me? Byer’s first big audio hit moved in 2021 from HeadGum to Conan O’Brien’s Team Coco network. Description: Nicole Byer is single and has been for decades. She’s smart, funny, has a fat ass and loves giving blow jobs. So the question is why is she perpetually single? This podcast is a quest to find that answer. Every week, Nicole invites a comedian, friend, or ex-fling to interview their dating life and figure out her own. The latest episode, out today, “Hot Singles In Your Area,” features guest Chelsea Peretti (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Sing 2).
90 Day Bae, Byer’s Patreon-exclusive podcast with co-host Marcy Jarreau, has 3,513 patrons at this writing, talking about the reality series 90 Day Fiance. This week their newest episode, out Jan. 6, covers Season 5, Episode 4.
And then there’s Best Friends, which Byer puts out on Earwolf alongside her longtime Doppelganger comedy partner, Sasheer Zamata. Their latest episode came out Wednesday.
So yeah, Nicole Byer not only dominated December, but also is coming in hot to start off 2022. Congrats again, Nicole!
